Disconnect/Allergens

Disconnect-and-Allergens

This is my first big Figure Drawing project of the year. The piece is titled “Disconnect/Allergens” and was an experiment in layering traditional media. The figure was drawn first, followed by the branches coming from his head, then the branches surrounding his body. For this drawing, I used graphite, coffee, ink, tea, marker, watercolor crayon, and colored pencil.

The idea here is that people may often feel separated from each other and will sometimes engulf themselves in the natural world to attempt the creation of peace, but nature is not always so nurturing. The soft, fuzzy feeling one may get could just be the start of a sneezing fit.

I’ve also been thinking a lot about how people look to nature to “find themselves”; the psychology behind that as well as a visual expression of that. More work on the subject to come!

Also, this drawing was put up on Patreon almost a week ago. If you’re interested in seeing new projects and pieces first, I’d appreciate the support!

All Over the Place

I’ve been doing a lot of different things, lately, and that has been making me very busy. So busy, in fact, that I’ve been forgetting to post here (for shame, Katie).

I did recently post something I’m excited about on my Sketchbook blog for my Digital Media class. My rotoscope is going super slow, but the GIF of the first handful of frames is looking really nice! Take a look:

It’s not looking TOO badly, but I’m definitely going to go back in and work the background better later on.

And, with that, I need to run to class. I’ll try to post more, now that I have weekends off.
